What sets me apart

With 30 years in website design, branding, graphic design and a Master of Arts in Studio Art and Art History behind me, I call upon my love of illustration and color to create bold, nature-inspired patterns using pen, pencil, acrylics, and gouache. This practice draws from my love of Scandinavian design (my heritage) and the wild landscapes of Montana, Alaska, Arizona, and North Dakota—places I have lived and loved deeply as my home.

My work is what I call “modern folk” - it takes a fresh approach to folk motifs by revamping them with a modern touch. I also call my work “flourished folk” because it involves lots of hand-drawn embellishments and detail.

I love detail. I fell in love with richly illustrated children’s books as a young child and I absolutely love complexity in illustration. As a child, I used to draw my fantasy homes in both bird’s eye and from the front with extreme care to every detail.

Likewise, this leads to my next passion - treehouses. I’ve been drawing and painting “fantasy treehouses” for some time now and enjoy working them into my designs here and there.

Arts & crafts also are important to my creative processes as I’ve always been an avid crafter and maker-of-things! I love to bring a bit of whimsy and crafty beauty into the world through a wide variety of craft projects. Sometimes these projects inspire my surface pattern designs.

I would be amiss if I didn’t mention my faith, which is central to my work, too. My designs blend artistry with faith, infusing Bible verses and vibrant energy to uplift and inspire. I’d like to bring my faith-infused artwork into more areas, such as bedding, pillows, and tabletop decor.
